LFG(et out of here), an Intro

I’ve always been good at things. I know, TOUGH start to the first blog but hear me out. By good I mean never really great… Skated by through school, knowing enough to get me through while still being able to fuck around, but never enough passion to light the fire or go that extra mile. The typical starter job rolls around midway through college, and here I am 3 years later looking for a way out. I’m good at what I do, though that same passion that was missing through school never manifested itself into work. The passion that I’ve now realized I only find through 2 things, sports and comedy.

Sports has always been a huge part of me – the 06-07 Sens playoff run was quite literally the most memorable 2 months of my life. Being up north I was a late bloomer to football, but fell in love with the Giants. Reason?Basically this guy named Peyton Manning was the hottest thing going coming off that win over the Bears, and I figured I’d take a shot at kid bro Eli. Sure they’ve been ugly these past couple years and spotty overall, but my GOD were those two Super Bowl runs fantastic. Of course hindsight is where I’d take heat from my buddies, who will go to their grave swearing that I climbed onto that bandwagon after we broke the Pats perfect year. Knowing I’ll never live that down, I have no problem eating that reputation, because it’s that type of banter and debate that helps spark the lighter.

All that basic guy shit aside, comedy was where I really started to figure it all out. I remember when Russell Peters broke out in 2005(?), that was a big deal up here. Got me digging around into a few stand-up routines here and there (Dane Cook gets a lot of hate, but Vicious Circle is fucking iconic), sitcoms and the like (King of Queens, The Office, the usual suspects), until I really found my wavelength in 2012 with Ten Minute Podcast. RIP. If you somehow found this blog, do yourself a favour and listen to these episodes front to back. Ok maybe not all the way back, the last 3 years fucking sucked, but the original trio of Will Sasso, Chris D’Elia, and Bryan Callen put together some of the funniest shit I’ve ever laid my ears on. Through these guys is where I found my way to other comedians – Sebastian Maniscalco, Bert Kreischer, Bill motherfucking Burr just to name a motherfucking few. Where sports ignites the flame, comedy pours fucking kerosene onto it.

What I didn’t mention about my current job is that I work from home basically the entire week. Forget the non-commute or extra hours of sleep, the greatest part about it is being able to consume massive amounts of content while being just good enough at what I do to mail it in most of the time. Whether the morning starts off with watching Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe spew their nonsense or finishing off that comedy special I passed out to the night before, the day becomes more and more bearable. Fast forward to today, it’s all started to have an autopilot feel to it and it’s pushed me to get out there and figure out how to make a change towards what I really love – ideally, something that combines the two into one. Throughout college I had come across the typical outlets – SBNation, Bleacher Report – those who put out the occasional tweet that gets you to sniff laugh (is that what it’s called? You know what I mean…) but nothing NEARLY good enough to stick around for. It wasn’t till a couple of years ago, and way too late that I found Barstool. Somehow it missed me on the way, but when I found it I fell in love. The personalities, the content – from blogs, podcasts, and radio to spelling bees, combines, and electric chairs, it all sits right on my wavelength and has helped grow that flame into wildfire.

If the stupid name of this site isn’t obvious enough, that’s where I need to be. A place where I can thrive as myself, and not fake it through the dull corporate bullshit that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. So stick around, I’m gonna pack this blog full of content, and via advice from KFC – act like I already work there. Let’s see where this takes us. LFG.
